“We enjoyed doing the consultation activities and loved to share our experience with children around the world like us” concluded one of the girls after participating in one of our consultations.
Children’s Voices
By using different consultation methods, like bodymapping, the boys and girls were able to talk about their experiences as child workers. One of the girls for example highlighted the local education situation as important:
“If there are more schools near to our house,
it would help.”– Girl consulted in India
Children involved in consultation
The consulted children, consisting of 20 girls and boys aged between 8 and 12 years, are part of a residential child labour rehabilitation program of our partner organization BREADS. The children are former child workers, who were involved in agricultural work like harvesting cotton or peanuts at the local fields. The consulted boys mostly worked at the fields, others worked as sheepherders. All of them had no chance to attend school whilst working, therefore they now undergo one year of informal education with the help of the organization BREADS. This enables them to go back to formal education afterwards.
